Budapest
Budapest, the capital city of Hungary and the country's principal industrial, commercial
and transportation centre, has more than 1.8 million inhabitants, down from a mid-1980s
peak of 2.07m. It became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with the
amalgamation in 1873 of right-bank Buda and Óbuda (Old Buda or Alt-Ofen) with Pest on the left (east) bank.

Sziget Festival 2004
On Sziget Festival more than 100 foreign and 350-400 Hungarian bands and entertainers performed:
together with the cultural programmes the audience could see more than 1000 performance during
the festival-week. The internationality of the Festival is reflected in the fact that the performers
arrived from 30 countries of the world from Australia to Finnland, from Cuba to Japan. On the
Main Stage reggae band, more pop, rock and metal bands, as well hip-hop groups played. A series
of programmes at international level characterised the djuice World Music Stage, high lined by
the best performers of the world and by rising stars. WAN2 and Hammerworld stages ran full house
on prime time concerts, and the fans of theatre frequented at large the Theatre and Dance Stage.
